JOB SUMMARY:   The Director, Marketing Communications, is responsible for implementing the marketing communications strategy to enhance MCASD’S visibility in the arts and culture community, as well as the region’s general population and visitors, with goals of increasing attendance and building membership. This dynamic role requires a creative and analytical thinker, writer, and storyteller, with a passion for the arts, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of digital and traditional marketing channels. The Director, Marketing Communications, assesses various tactics of marketing communications to determine the most cost-effective methods for achieving desired results. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy to increase awareness, drive attendance, and promote exhibitions, programs, and events.
  • Brand Development and Management: Oversee the Museum's brand identity, ensuring consistency across all platforms and communications, while positioning MCASD as a world-class institute of contemporary art.
  • PR and Media Relations: Ability to establish a rapport with key editors in local and national art and cultural press and travel press. Write and submit press releases.
  • Digital Marketing: Lead digital marketing efforts, including social media, email campaigns, website content, and online advertising, to effectively engage diverse audiences and promote exhibitions.
  • Audience Development: Analyze visitor data and market trends to identify target audiences and develop strategies for audience engagement and growth. Create follow-up plan to continue engaging non-member visitors.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the marketing budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to achieve marketing goals.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the marketing team, providing guidance and support to foster professional growth and creativity.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of marketing initiatives and report on outcomes to Museum senior leadership.
  • Content Creation: Collaborate with curators and educators to create compelling content that highlights exhibitions, artists, and programs, including blog posts and promotional materials.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with local artists, art organizations, and the community to foster partnerships and collaborations.
  • Follow policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:  Proven track record of developing and implementing successful marketing campaigns. Strong understanding of digital marketing tools and analytics with experience in social media most effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Passion for contemporary art and culture with knowledge of current trends and key players in the field. Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build relationships within the community. Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, arts administration, or a related field, and 10 years’ recent relevant experience in marketing, preferably in the arts or cultural sector, or any equivalent education and experience.  Master’s degree preferred.
